HeyGen Video Translation Pricing: What a Minute Actually Costs (2026)
HeyGen bills video translation through two separate systems at very different rates. This breaks down the API rate card, Speed vs Precision lip sync, what the subscription credits do and don't cover, and where the lip sync breaks down.
How much HeyGen video translation costs per minute
HeyGen’s API prices video translation per second. Converted to minutes:
| Service | Per second | Per minute |
|---|---|---|
| Video Translation, Speed (audio only) | $0.0333 | $2.00 |
| Video Translation, Speed (lip sync) | $0.0333 | $2.00 |
| Video Translation, Precision (lip sync) | $0.0667 | $4.00 |
Speed lip sync costs the same as audio only, so the lip sync is free at that tier. Precision is exactly twice Speed.
Standalone lip sync, applied to a video you already have, bills at the same two rates.
Two billing systems, and the one that applies to you
This is where most HeyGen cost estimates go wrong. HeyGen meters the same features through two independent systems.
The subscription is credit-based. Creator is $29 a month for 600 credits, Pro is $49 for 1,000, Business is $149 plus $20 per seat for 1,500. Credits are shared across video generation, translation, avatars, B-roll, and AI assets. HeyGen does not publish a fixed credit cost per minute of translation. It states that usage varies by feature, model, duration, and generation type, and that the cost appears in-product before you generate.
The API is a separate pay-as-you-go wallet. Subscription credits do not apply to it. There are no free API credits. The minimum top-up is $5, and purchased credits expire 12 months later.
If you are building on the API, the per-second rate card above is your bill, and the $29 a month figure that appears in most comparisons has nothing to do with it.
Speed versus Precision
HeyGen sells lip sync at two quality tiers and charges twice as much for the better one.
In our testing, Speed holds up on easy footage: one person facing the camera, well lit, speaking at a moderate pace. It degrades on harder shots. Precision handles considerably more, and the output is genuinely good. It costs $4.00 per minute.
You pick the tier before you know how the shot will handle. That leaves paying Precision rates on everything, or accepting that some share of Speed output needs redoing.
What the hard cases look like
We ran the same two clips through HeyGen and Pinch. Both are conditions that separate lip sync models: low light with a microphone near the mouth, and a speaker turned to side profile.
Same source clips, both providers. English to Spanish, esports interview shot in low light with a handheld mic. Italian to English, outdoor two-hander with the speaker in side profile.
On the low-light interview, the HeyGen output loses sync. On the side profile shot, the mouth region shows visible artifacts as the head turns away from camera. These are the two failure modes that show up most often in footage that was not shot for dubbing.
Pinch handles both at one lip sync rate. There is no quality tier to pick, and if lip sync cannot run on an input, the API rejects the job up front with a lipsync_unavailable error rather than returning a file with the lip sync silently skipped. A lipsync pass that fails is billed at the $0.50 audio rate, not the $1.00 one.
What a real job costs
API list prices, lip sync included on both sides.
| Job | Pinch | HeyGen Speed | HeyGen Precision |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 minute video, 3 languages (30 min) | $30 | $60 | $120 |
| YouTube channel, 240 min a month | $240 | $480 | $960 |
| 50 hours of course content, 5 languages (15,000 min) | $15,000 | $30,000 | $60,000 |
Pinch’s lipsynced rate is $1.00 a minute against $0.50 for an audio-only dub. Speed is twice that rate and Precision is four times. At the volumes in the bottom row every provider negotiates, so treat those as list-price anchors rather than final quotes.
Where HeyGen is the better tool
Language coverage. HeyGen translates into 175 or more languages. Pinch dubs into 10: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. If you need Thai or Vietnamese, this comparison ends here.
Avatars. HeyGen is an avatar and video generation platform first. Digital twins, photo avatars, a script-to-video agent, and a studio to assemble it all. Pinch does none of that.
In-app economics at low volume. If you are already subscribed for avatar work and translating occasionally inside the web app, the credits you have already bought are the cheapest minutes available to you.
Common questions
How much does HeyGen cost per minute of video translation? Through the API, $2.00 per minute for Speed with or without lip sync, and $4.00 per minute for Precision lip sync.
Do my HeyGen subscription credits work with the API? No. The API is a separate pay-as-you-go wallet with a $5 minimum top-up and no free credits.
Does HeyGen do lip sync? Yes, at two tiers. Speed is included at the base translation rate and Precision doubles it.
What is the difference between Speed and Precision lip sync? Precision costs twice as much and holds up on harder footage: off-axis heads, occlusion near the mouth, fast speech, poor lighting. Speed is reliable on straightforward talking-head shots.
Do HeyGen API credits expire? Yes, 12 months after purchase.
How many credits does a minute of translation cost in the web app? HeyGen does not publish a fixed rate. The cost appears in-product before you generate and varies by feature and model.
Is there a cheaper HeyGen alternative with lip sync? Pinch is $1.00 per minute with lip sync, or $0.50 without. The tradeoff is language coverage: 10 against HeyGen’s 175 or more.
